How to Add a User to Google Analytics

What is Google Analytics

Google analytics is an analytics platform that is installed on most websites. This tracks visitors and their actions while visiting your website. Having and analyzing data on how people engage with your site is extremely powerful.

Why we need access to Google Analytics

Having access to google analytics allows us to review how your website is working, look into specific questions you might have about your website traffic and analyze how a change might have changed how users engage with your website.

How to provide access to Google Analytics

You can add users at the account, property, or view level. The level at which you add a user determines that user’s initial access. Users are identified by their email addresses. You can add only users whose email addresses are registered in Google accounts.

To add or modify users, you must have Manage Users Permission at the account, property, or view level. You can add or modify users at each level for which you have permission. You can add as many users as you need.

To add a new user to an account/property/view:

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics.
  2. Click Admin, and navigate to the desired account/property/view.
  3. In the Account, Property, or View column (depending upon whether you want to add users at the account, property, or view level), click User Management.
  4. In the Account users list, click +, then click Add new users.
  5. Enter the email address for the user’s Google Account.
  6. Select Notify new users by email to send a message to the user.
  7. Select the permissions you want. Learn more about permissions.
  8. Click Add.

For future reference, you might also want to check the steps in editing and deleting users.

You can edit the permissions for any user at any level in an Analytics account. For example, if you have given a user Read permission for only a single view, you can subsequently also give the user Edit permission for only that view. Or you can give that user Edit permission at the property level, and thereby also give Edit permission for every view in that property.

To modify permissions for an existing user:

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics..
  2. Click Admin, and navigate to the desired account/property/view.
  3. In the Account, Property, or View column (depending upon whether you want to modify permissions at the account, property, or view level), click User Management.
  4. Use the search box at the top of the list to find the user you want. Enter a full or partial address( e.g., [email protected] or janedoe).
  5. Click the user name, then add or remove permissions.
  6. Click Save.

To delete a user:

  1. Sign in to Google Analytics..
  2. Click Admin, and navigate to the desired account.
  3. In the Account, Property, or View column, click User Management.
  4. Use the search box at the top of the list to find the user you want. Enter a full or partial address( e.g., [email protected] or janedoe).
